Got a Sig Sauer P-232 in stainless, getting a some pitting/rust on the slide, does anyone know a 'safe' way to remove this?

Peroxide? I know some people use it to clean old coins so...best I can come up with.

Re: Rust on "Stainless" Steel
I have several S&W stainless handguns, one I've had for 30+ years and none of them have ever shown any sign of rust.
Has your sig been subjected to very harsh treatment or harsh environment? |
Re: Rust on "Stainless" Steel
Body salts can cause stainless to discolor and pit.
JJ's idea of using a toothbrush and baking soda sounds like the best... |
Re: Rust on "Stainless" Steel
Stainless will rust if it is exposed to iron/steel. Using carbon steel/iron tools, filing with a non stainless file, or grinding with a tool previously used on non stainless will always make 'stainless' rust.

Re: Rust on "Stainless" Steel
Only magnetic (heat treatable) stainless will rust. Non-magnetic (kitchen utensils) will not rust. Look into "passivation", it is a process to remove the ferrous residue left on a stainless part after being machined with a tool steel type cutter. Most industrial areas will have a plater that can do it. It is not that expensive & will not remove nor add any material. They may even run it with other parts & charge you less.
